About Dougie MacLean
Dougie MacLean combines lovely melodies, intriguing and tasteful guitar playing, a gentle voice and resolute lyrics in a way that is unique, pleasing and accessible. As a guitarist myself, I’m especially impressed since Dougie was a professional touring musician in a band playing fiddle before someone introduced him to alternate tunings on the acoustic guitar that became a career changing experience from band member to solo artist resulting in a 50+ years as a touring musician. As a lyricist, he writes evocatively about my favorite subjects including love, the environment, relationships, family, home, traditions, life’s struggles, elitism, homesickness, privilege, corruption, greed, loss, travel, special places and life’s lessons.
Dougie's a very accomplished guitarist creating a distinctive and signature sound, something very difficult for musicians to develop, but he has managed to do so in a way enjoyable to many. For those and other reasons, he has millions of fans around the globe, been recognized by his musical peers and attained the prestigious Officer of the British Empire (OBE) designation. He also received an honorary doctorate from Chestnut Hill University in Philadelphia for his contribution to beautiful music and has performed at Carnegie Hall. Dougie’s also a famous patriot of Scotland and family man with his wife Jenny creating the paintings for all his album covers.

Tribute Performance History
In the 1990s, I owned one of the best known acoustic guitar retailers in the world with customers in 120 countries. At that time, I was a distributor of Dougie’s CDs and could play 7 of his tunes. I last saw Dougie perform live in the 1990s but have watched 300+ live YouTube performances he live streams most weeks on the Butterstone Studios channel. Thanks to his YouTube performances, I’ve learned 40+ more songs and have listed them, below, for those wanting to create their own playlist for private performances. Otherwise, those performed will be selected by me where I happen to be playing. My hope is to represent them in the spirit they are performed by a solo musician as Dougie does when on stage or his live streams. Dougie's music and his wife Jenny's art can be purchased directly from them since I no longer sell his products. Links for purchasing them are provided above.
